Our Priorities

Missions:

Before Jesus Christ ascended into heaven, he gave his disciples a mission to, “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matt 28:19). To be obedient to Jesus means to be obedient to his command “Go!” As Global Methodists, we live this command by partnering with God to heal the wounds found in our communities while sharing the good news that Jesus Christ is Lord. Through our Missions Collective, we will encourage every congregation to remember Jesus’ Great Commission to go beyond their walls and share the good news of Jesus Christ.

Empower the Local Church:

The local church is the primary way that God accomplishes his mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ.  When the local congregation pursues God and his mission, miracles happen all the time.  Our priority is to empower the local church to do the mission work in its own backyard and “the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).  The Global Methodist Church of South Carolina will primarily encourage the work of ministry to be carried out by the people called Methodists on a local level.

Discipleship:

Jesus told his followers, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). The life of a disciple is learning to live and love like Jesus by denying ourselves and taking up our cross. God’s grace works to mature every believer by rescuing them from their old, sinful life and reorienting them toward a new, fruitful life in Jesus Christ (2 Cor 5:17). Historically, Methodists have gathered in small covenant groups to 1) examine their relationship with God, 2) encourage one another toward God’s will and 3) care for the poor. The GMC of SC encourages every church to work toward intentionally discipling one another to see believers mature in their faith.

Children and Youth:

Our Children’s and Youth Ministries Collective will work to partner with local churches as well as host events to help further the discipleship of the next generation. The church was created to be a multi-generational movement of disciples. Scripture tells us, “Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it” (Proverbs 22:6). Our calling as churches is to direct our children and students by baptizing into the Church and teaching them God’s truth so that they will pursue their calling in God’s kingdom.

Our Young Adult Collective aims to foster connections across the state for young adults in various walks of life. In this season of life, it is important to have community and encouragement for how God will use us. As scripture says, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” (1 Tim 4:12). Our goal as the Global Methodist Church of South Carolina is to remind young adults that they can be an example for churches and believers everywhere as God works through them to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

Multiply Our Witness:

Our movement is called to multiply our witness by creating new disciples for Jesus Christ. The Global Methodist Church of South Carolina established a committee on Church Planting and Multiplication that will assist newly forming churches as well as identify areas of the state where we believe God is calling us to plant GMC churches.

Serve South Carolina:

Jesus lived among us as one who serves (Lk 22:24-30). John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Movement, modeled a servant’s heart by visiting those imprisoned, preaching to the poor in the fields, and raising funds to build schools and care for the sick. In this new chapter of Methodism, the Global Methodist Church of South Carolina will encourage a holistic faith of the head, heart and hands that models the love of Jesus Christ by serving the poor and needy in our South Carolina communities and beyond.

Establish Connection:

In Christ, our connection together enables us to do more than we could on our own. Our common connection in our doctrine, mission, and practice strengthens our ability to transform our local community. The Global Methodist Church of South Carolina will provide opportunities for life-giving connection in worship, training, and accountability for the glory of God and the good of the kingdom.
