The Global Methodist Church of South Carolina (GMC of SC) is hiring a part-time Communications Director. The Director will advance the mission of the GMC of SC by showing how God is working across our churches, districts, conference, and international missions partnerships. Primary objectives of the role include telling the story of what God is doing, sharing our passion for making disciples of Jesus Christ and spreading scriptural holiness, and increasing the effectiveness of conference ministries through excellence in communication.

Why are we creating this position? One of the most commonly cited concerns across the annual conference is the need for additional communications. This includes telling the story of what God is doing across South Carolina and in our international missions partners, as well as in our children, youth, young adult, laity, missions, and Alpha collectives. It also involves additional communications around meetings, events, and Global Methodist beliefs. One of our annual conference goals is to equip the local church, and greater emphasis on communication will help us better live into this goal.

What will the Communications Director do? The Communications Director will work to implement the Communications Strategy adopted by the Conference Connectional Team. This includes responsibility for social media, production of the conference newsletter, liaising with our website contractor, developing a conference media database with resources from local churches and conference events, contract production of video material for the annual conference, and overall coordination of the GMC of SC digital identity.

What is the impact on the conference budget? There is no increase to the GMC of SC budget with the addition of this new position. The Conference Connectional Team has reallocated existing budget line items that were initially overestimated for their budget areas. Budget areas that were reduced include the following line items:

• Behold Annual Conference: Reduced from $50,000 to $40,000

• Contingency for Committee on Superintendency: Reduced from $10,000 to $3,000

• Conference Contingency: Reduced from $20,000 to $12,000

• Total Reallocation: Maximum of $25,000 for Part-Time Communications Director

The total budget for the GMC of SC remains unchanged at $992,636. The Conference Connectional Team seeks to practice transparency with budgeting and decision-making processes. An updated conference budget reflecting these reallocations is available at GMCofSC.org.
