OASIS

ANNUAL CONFERENCE

The Global Methodist Church of South Carolina is pleased to offer churches, groups, and individuals the opportunity to support special one-time projects in the Oasis Conference.

The Oasis Conference is in a region of Africa where Christians experience great persecution, including potential job loss, threats to housing, access to water, are often cut off from relationships, and regularly experience the threat of physical danger and possibly death. Yet despite these hardships, devoted believers continue to share the faith and pursue the Lord.

Support: SC’s partnership with Oasis (called a Memorandum of Understanding), provides support in two ways. First, the GMC of SC provides funding to cover an annual pastor training program and a few basic administrative needs. Funding provided directly by the GMC of SC is limited in scope and evaluated on an ongoing basis.

The second tier of support is the opportunity for churches, groups, and individuals to support one-time special projects. These are projects located “on the ground” and will support gospel work in specific communities. Each of the projects has been vetted by Oasis and GMC of SC Missions Collective leaders and will contribute significantly to advance of the gospel in local communities.

Special Projects in the Oasis Conference

Project 1

Missionary Support for Lamis Abdou. Lamis is the primary curriculum coordinator for the Oasis Conference. She develops and translates curriculum to train new pastors to lead in ministry and to prepare them for ordination. She conducts her work between Arabic, French, and English. Project Need: $10,000

Project 2

Missionary Support for Dan Miller. Dan is responsible for overseeing the Oasis Conference, developing leaders, and identifying apostolic giftings, and helping protect persecuted Christians in times of danger. Project Need: $10,000

Project 3

Support for “The Principal.” One of the key pastoral leaders in one of the most dangerous Oasis Conference countries is a local school principal, hence his alias as “The Principal.” He recently lost his government job and retirement due to his faith in Christ, yet he is still pressing ahead leading the underground church in his community and region. His most pressing issue is housing for both he and his family. Project Need: $7,500

Project 4

Worship & Discipleship Space. In country 2, space is needed to provide a secure gathering place for believers to worship and for discipleship. The country context allows construction to simply build a second story onto the home of the current church leader to create this space. Project Need: $4,000

Project 5

Women’s Cohort. In several of the Oasis Countries, women and children are often neglected by their husbands, especially in polygamous situations. A women’s center in country 2 is training women on basic job skills like sewing and other handicrafts, as well as teaching them to read and write, so they can provide for themselves and their children. These basic skills have become a valuable avenue for sharing the faith. Monies for this project will increase the number of women who receive both job skills and exposure to the gospel. Project Need: $2,500

Project 6

Media Ministry. Country 3 is a closed nation with laws prohibiting proselyting or sharing your faith. Yet creative Christians have discovered ways to share the faith via social media and video online, where they can avoid many dangers and have also had great effectiveness. God is using the media ministry in country 3 to reach the lost and we are seeking to increase their effectiveness. Project Need: $10,000

Project 7

Wheels. The lead pastor in country 1 regularly travels the length of his nation, roughly 2,000 miles, to cultivate leaders, follow up in-person with new believers, and to connect them with a cell church. The vehicle this leader is using is unreliable and difficult to keep in service. This project will help fund the purchase of a reliable car to carry out this mission. Project Need: $10,000

Project 8

Missionary Support for Sufian. Sufian leads a media ministry which enables the gospel to spread online past barriers that would complicate in-person sharing. His ministry has enabled the formation of underground cell churches in his nation. This ministry leader needs support as he leads a fruitful media based, disciple making ministry amidst great persecution. Project Need: $5,000.

How to Give: Gifts to the above projects may be supported by mailing a check to ‘GMC of SC’ and write the project number in the memo line. Gifts can be made in any amount. Note: When a project is fully funded, any additional funds received will be reallocated to the additional projects listed above. Churches may give to more than one project at a time.

Checks may be mailed to

Confidentiality & Aliases: The above project descriptions use a combination of personal names and aliases to describe ministry leaders. Leaders who are located in ‘safe’ territories are comfortable with their name being in print, such as Lamis and Dan. Leaders serving on the ground in dangerous contexts operate under aliases, such as “The Principal” and “Sufian.” For security purposes, we have been asked not to refer directly to country names, but to “Country 1,” “Country 2,” etc. While we cannot place the names and locations of those serving in dangerous contexts in writing, please feel free to contact our Missions Collective leaders if you have any additional questions. Leadership can share additional information in non-published and non-public conversations.
