The Bishop’s Cup Golf Classic

September 15, 2025

When creating this tournament, we felt that the combination of a great golf facility, an event based upon Christian values and enjoyable tournament format, and taking place in order to benefit GMC of South Carolina Mission Collective, would be critical in building a successful, quality event. Each year The Bishop’s Cup will pay honor to an individual who has demonstrated spiritual leadership, devotion and dedication to being the “hands and feet” of Jesus Christ within the South Carolina community.

The direct and indirect benefits to the sponsors of this year’s event will far surpass their ROI. Due to the participation in the event, sponsors received exposure on local, regional, and national media platforms. A sponsor, becoming part of this quality, charitable oriented event brands with the Global Methodist Church of South Carolina community and the golf industry in a relatively inexpensive way reaching the sought after demographic.

This event will be an early sell out with only twenty-eight teams representing all parts of the Southeast United States and with anticipation of raising over $30,000 for our conference’s Mission Collective supporting international missions.

As Christ’s church continues to grow around the world, support from fundraisers like the Bishop’s Cup makes a tremendous difference. We are seeing “every nation, tongue tribe and language” (Rev 7:9) give their lives to Christ. It is thrilling to see lives transformed and bondages broken. Your support through the Bishop’s Cup Golf Classic helps welcome and advance the Kingdom of God globally. Thank you for your support of gospel-centered ministry through the Bishop’s Cup.

Bishop Carolyn Moore

Through our Mission Collectives, we desire to share the whole counsel of God with all peoples and to advance the presence and fulfillment of the Kingdom of God in every part of South Carolina and at all levels of societies and cultures. The Global Methodist Church of South Carolina is committed to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the inspiration and authority of the Scriptures, and the work of the Holy Spirit in conveying God’s truth and grace to all people.

We are a global church that recognizes and deploys the gifts and contributions of each part of the church, working as partners in the gospel with equal voice and leadership. Our witness to the world is marked by mutual love, concern, sharing, and a focus on those who are most vulnerable. We watch over one another in love and bear witness to the transforming power of the Good News as we humbly, but boldly, strive to serve others as ambassadors of Christ!

2025 Classic Honoree

Jeff Kersey’s call to ministry came over a period of time. It began when his best friend Dave told him the Lord was calling him, from Kentucky, to go to Myrtle Beach for the summer to do “beach ministry.” He reluctantly said yes because he had no job, place to stay, or ministry. That summer he witnessed God open doors by providing a job in a Christian campground, a free place to stay, and a ministry of singing and sharing the gospel at Lakewood Campground. It was also the place where he met Lynn, which is how God led him to full-time ministry in the United Methodist Church in South Carolina. And the rest is His Story! In 1984 he transferred into the South Carolina Annual Conference and was appointed to Union UMC in Conway, South Carolina. He spent 10 wonderful years in Conway, which was also Lynn’s hometown. In 1994, he was appointed to Mt. Horeb, a relatively small church in Lexington, SC.

There have been many highlights over the years in ministry for Jeff. One that stands out for him is the night the Holy Spirit called him to walk into the small Mt. Horeb sanctuary and to lay hands and pray over each pew asking Him to fill those pews with people. To go to the front doors and lay hands on the doors and ask God to bring the unchurched and lost people into that sanctuary. And He did! Mt. Horeb, once a sleepy small church in Lexington, SC has grown from a two-zip code congregation to weekly ministry impacting over 5,000+ members.

Over Jeff’s tenure God has built Mt. Horeb on the solid rock of His Holy Word as found in the Old and New Testaments. Scriptural truth is essential, and the authority of God’s Word is the true rule and guide for faith and practice. God clearly laid out the mission of Mt. Horeb to Make, Mature, and Mobilize disciples who Magnify Jesus Christ in worship.

“I am incredibly excited that our first honoree for the Bishop’s Cup is Rev. Jeff Kersey.  Jeff’s leadership has played an outsized role in helping shape Global Methodism in South Carolina, both publicly and through so many acts behind-the-scenes.  I’ve often marveled at how accessible Jeff has made himself over the years to pastors and lay people from across our state, simply because he loves Jesus and wants to support the church.  Thank you for joining me in honoring the ministry of Jeff Kersey as we raise funds to further God’s kingdom work around the globe.” (Rev. Erik Grayson, GMC-South Carolina: Superintendent)

Jeff have been married almost 48 years to Lynn Eargle Kersey. They have two children, Ashley Davis, and Aaron Kersey and 6 grandchildren, Harper, Brook, Landon, Denver, Hudson, and Coleman.
